![]() And I wish I could’ve found a picture, but when she says this Finn and Jake give her this wide-eyed stare, like the rest of the audience is on a first viewing. Goliad - Bubblegum says that if she could she would live forever. Can you blame her? The kid is almost fourteen and, in her mind, the childish spark she had for the boy was extinguished when she became eighteen again, but Finn doesn’t realize that yet. Incendium - For the first time PB flat out rejects Finn’s affections. Though if the comics are canon, then it’s because PB took up more responsibilities ala “responsibilities demand sacrifice”. What Was Missing - We see that Peebles and Marceline had one hell of a falling out at some point in the past, and to this day we don’t know specifically why or how. It would be like blaming a lion for killing its trainer that’s just it’s nature. Whether this was cruel or not rests on your own moral code, but as we see in ‘You Made Me’, it’s simply in Lemongrab’s nature to act cruel. Too Young - Peebles sent Lemongrab away because he was too volatile amongst the Candy People. What Have You Done? - Bubblegum has to make Ice King scream to heal her people, but she knows it’s wrong, and feels guilty about the whole thing. ![]() Now why does PB keep inviting the Duke? I dunno. Imagine if you had a friend that, every time he’d leave your place, you would find your pantry completely raided. You can’t really blame PB for disliking a man that eats all her food. Peebles goes nuts after an accident she believes was carried out by the Duke of Nuts (who she also hates for eating all of the castle’s pudding). The Duke - One of the more famous examples. So we learn she isn’t totally weak and cripplingly nice. So no Slumber Party Panic, as this wasn’t a hard decision and PB was just doing it for the benefit of her people, even though playing God is frowned upon by many, I personally let this slide because it’s a cartoon.ĭungeon - The first time we see PB act really stern, in which she scolds Finn and Jake for their reckless disobedience and actually ends up saving them. So I went through the liberty of skimming through an episode list, and picking out the ones where PB’s actions are genuinely morally questionable, or she really slips out of the “Pretty Nice Princess” facade. This leads to many theorizing that as Finn ages, along with the viewer, their perception of Bubblegum has altered and sees her for what she is: a hard woman always challenged with making hard decisions and sacrifices. People claim that Princess Bubblegum has changed as a person over time, while others say she has always been a little dark, but keeps up a “public face” of sorts where she’s seen as the Pretty Nice Princess. You know the kind the peeps that believe every breath PB takes has some dark intention behind it, thinking she’s a tyrant for stealing a baby’s lollipop or some other such nonsense. No one is ever 100% honest - it’s just a part of life after all. But that’s okay everyone has their own secrets. However, it seems that the princess likes to hide these grey actions from her own people, and for a time, Finn the Human. She can act hasty at times, and sometimes a little callous, but most people are prone to do that. Princess Bonnibel Bubblegum is a genuinely nice woman who has had, and continues to make, numerous weighty decisions that have always been for the greater benefit of her kingdom and her people.
